200 Nonfiction Specialist

This badge is earned by successfully completing the Great Books Foundation’s keystone course, Shared Inquiry Essentials. Participants in this interactive workshop are prepared to use the Shared Inquiry™ method of learning with students at any grade level. Participants learn how to make exploration of a text active and collaborative, how to create effective discussion questions, and how to conduct the full range of interpretive activities that improve students’ reading, critical thinking, writing, and oral communication skills.

Recipients of this badge have learned the Shared Inquiry™ method of reading and discussion and are prepared to use JGB Nonfiction Inquiry materials effectively in the classroom. The workshop includes interactive, hands-on: - Demonstration of Nonfiction Inquiry reading strategies and discussion - Reflection on the elements and benefits of the Shared Inquiry activity sequence - Introduction to, and practice with, using follow-up questions to deepen students’ thinking about texts Time for questions about implementation and troubleshooting Participants will receive a PDF highlighting key strategies and will be ready to implement JGB Nonfiction Inquiry in their classrooms.
