300 Shared Inquiry Master (Online & Student Questions)

This badge is earned by successfully completing the Great Books Foundation’s keystone course, Shared Inquiry Essentials. Participants in this interactive workshop are prepared to use the Shared Inquiry™ method of learning with students at any grade level. Participants learn how to make exploration of a text active and collaborative, how to create effective discussion questions, and how to conduct the full range of interpretive activities that improve students’ reading, critical thinking, writing, and oral communication skills.

This two-hour interactive webinar prepares teachers who have taken previous Great Books professional development courses to implement Junior Great Books effectively in an online or hybrid environment. Participants will have ample opportunities to weigh options for using Shared Inquiry activities synchronously and asynchronously and will explore strategies for: - Building a collaborative, civil community of online learners - Adapting core Shared Inquiry activities for online or hybrid use - Leading discussion online, with an emphasis on active listening and text evidence - Balancing participation and engaging all learners - Planning effective, flexible implementations

This badge is earned by successfully completing the Power of Student Questions course. Participants in this intermediate-level course learn how to help students pose authentic questions, how to identify different kinds of questions, and how to focus on questions that most effectively build students’ understanding of a text. The emphasis of the course is on using the Shared Inquiry™ method to engage all students in exploring answers and sharing ideas, both in discussion and in writing.
